A Strong Supporter Of Military Families

One of Hawaii's largest economic contributors is the U.S. military, especially on Oahu. Home to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay, Hickam Air Force Base, the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, numerous U.S. Coast Guard bases and other military outposts, Oahu is the center of America's presence in the Pacific.

Many of my family law clients include members of the U.S. military or spouses of U.S. service members. While the needs of military families are the same as those in the civilian world, the logistics of divorce or child custody are often more complicated. It takes precision and experience to resolve such matters for military families, skills I have developed in over a decade of practice in Kailua, Honolulu and the surrounding areas.

I am also married to a U.S. Army veteran of 30 years, so I understand first-hand the unique challenges military families face. When it comes to family law matters, I put my practical and professional experience to work in seeking creative solutions.

The Unique Issues Military Families Face

Everyone knows that military service members move frequently, which can create logistical headaches for couples going through divorce or separation. Frequent moves or the possibility of moving makes identifying marital assets or determining a sound parenting plan challenging, but not impossible. Marital property division may also be subject to certain federal laws in addition to Hawaii's state laws, especially when it comes to retirement assets.

As your lawyer, my goal is to develop solutions that both satisfy the law and the unique needs of your family. This includes assessing any existing agreements to determine whether modifications are necessary due to an impending deployment or relocation.

Help For Military Families Worldwide

In many cases, I deal with situations where a spouse or partner lives or is currently stationed elsewhere in the world. These cases require exceptional skill in negotiating matters of jurisdiction and legal process, as well as good communication to ensure all parties understand what's happening and what they need to do.

These unique aspects of military divorce are familiar to me. While no two cases are alike, I have handled many similar cross-border issues and know what approaches to take and what questions to ask. When it comes to military family law, my practice is truly international.
